Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189)
This is the points-based visa is for the skilled workers. These workers are not sponsored by a state or territory, an employer or a family member. Once you have this visa in hand, you can live and work permanently wherever you want in Australia. Not just this, your eligible family members can also be encompassed in your application. It is a permanent visa and permits visa-holders to stay in Australia forever that too with full work rights.
To be in a position to submit a valid application for this type of visa you have to first submit an Expression of Interest via Skill Select. You can do such a thing both in and outside Australia.
Conditions of Application
Applications are just by invitation. To be invited for applying, you must:
– Possess experience in a nominated profession on Australia’s Skilled Occupations List, and you must have a skills assessment with the applicable assessing authority for that profession
– Deposit an Expression of Interest
– You should be more than 18 and less than 50 years of age at the time of issuing of invitation
– Fulfil general Skilled Migration basic requirements that includes health, English language and character checks
– Be in a position to score minimum sixty on the points test
Once you are invited to apply for this visa, you will then possess sixty days. During these days you have to submit your online application. Your invitation letter is going to explain the process you must follow. These invitations are based on the claims made in your Expression of Interest at the time when you are invited to apply. Your application should reflect the information given in your Expression of Interest. It has to be supported by relevant evidence as well.
Family
Talking about family, you can encompass the following family members in the visa application:
– Your Spouse
– Your or your spouse’s dependent child
– Your or your spouse’s dependent relative.
Processing
The priority processing arrangements do apply to this visa. These determine the order in which the Australian immigration considers applications irrespective of when they have been deposited.

Skilled Nominated 190 Visas
The Subclass 190 visa is also called the Skilled Nominated visa. It is a part of Skill select. This visa is specifically for the skilled workers who wish to migrate to Australia as permanent residents and are qualified to be nominated by a territory or state government agency. Every territory and state has its own list of needs that are updated regularly. Apart from the Territory and state requirements, your profession has to be on the Combined List of Eligible Occupations. It is a combination of Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) and a few additional occupations on Medium & Long Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). It was formerly called the Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List (CSOL).
